Supplementary planning documents

Further information

The following SPDs are currently under preparation. They will be consulted on once draft documents are available -

  • sustainable drainage
  • residential design
  • affordable housing

The Hull Local Plan was adopted on 27 November 2017. Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) which formed part of the old plan expired on that date. We are in the process of preparing new SPDs based on Local Plan topics.

The SPDs will cover the following topics -

  • house extensions
  • heritage and archaeology
  • advertisement design
  • vitality and viability of centres
  • trees
  • protecting existing and providing new open space
  • ecology and biodiversity
  • city centre design
  • city centre parking
  • environmental quality
  • sustainable drainage
  • residential design
  • affordable housing

SPDs have a more limited role than local plan policies. For example, they cannot change a land use allocation. They are intended to advise on matters of detail such as design and policy implementation.

SPDs run alongside the Local Plan. There is no requirement for these documents to be examined by a planning inspector. We are required to carry out at least one formal public consultation before they can be adopted.
