The Mitchell Community Centre opened in 1952. It was created through the efforts of the Kingston Community Association. The centre received its name in 1989, in memory of local ward councillor, Violet Mitchell.
Throughout the years, the Mitchell Community Centre has provided a range of activities to residents such as -
- martial arts classes
- line dancing
- Tai Chi
- bingo
- breakfast club
- computer club
- art classes
The centre also offered support by operating as a food bank. It has also helped to upskill residents through the Worker’s Educational Association (WEA), who used the centre to hold their classes.
Unfortunately the centre closed in 2023, however it is looking to reopen in 2025 and provide activities once again.
