The Maurice Rawlings Community Centre opened in 1986. It is a purpose-built community centre run by the Coltman Area Community Association. The building is an identical design to the Edinburgh Street community centre.
From its launch, the centre has provided a wide range of activities, including -
- bingo
- children’s discos
- Councillor surgeries
- dressmaking
- football training
- keep fit
- marching band practice
- quizzes
- tea dances
- Tai chi
- youth groups
- drama groups
The Maurice Rawlings Community Centre was also home to a successful table tennis team which were runners-up in Division 8 in 1993.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the activities taken place have changed. Some have not returned due to the social impact of the pandemic. The centre is steadily becoming more used again, with other organisations and groups using the centre as a space to deliver local community activities.
