Course Information

To increase awareness of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people. This is a 2-day course, which is interactive and involves individual and group activities, during which participants will be expected to share their skills, knowledge and expertise.

Learning outcomes

Day 2

By the end of the course participants will have -

  • examined their own attitudes and understanding of domestic abuse
  • explored the forms domestic abuse can take and the contexts in which it can occur
  • examined some of the myths and assumptions around domestic abuse
  • looked at what services and support are available locally
  • examined their own practice and issues in the workplace in response to domestic abuse
  • examined agencies responsibilities in relation to risk identification, assessment and management
  • explained some of the lessons learned from the risk identification, assessment and management process
  • described the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) process and understand the guidance around this
  • developed an understanding of the effects of domestic abuse on children and young people
  • developed an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on the parent and child relationship
  • gained knowledge of how to offer appropriate help and support to adults, children and young people who are or have experienced domestic abuse
