Therapeutic Crisis Intervention - TCI(F) fostering - Learning and Development courses

TCI(F) is a training package for foster carers. It aims to provide the skills and knowledge to prevent or de-escalate crises and enable children and young people to change old habits, destructive responses, and problem behaviours.

The techniques presented in this training package are designed to provide the skills, knowledge, and confidence foster carers need to manage children and young people in crisis safely, and to be in control of the situation in order to bring about change and growth.

The training package covers 8 sessions of approximately 4 hours duration. Foster carers will be expected to attend all 8 sessions. It covers 4 modules -

• Crisis Prevention
• Crisis as an opportunity
• De-escalating the crisis
• Managing the Crisis

At the end of the sessions, foster carers will be -

• able to proactively prevent and de-escalate a potential crisis situation with children and young people
• able to safely and therapeutically manage a crisis situation
• able to work through the crisis situation with children and young people to help improve young people’s coping skills and strategies
