Course Title Understanding child sexual abuse - awareness
Course Information

To develop an awareness of the impact of sexual harm on children, young people, their families and practitioners.

This is a full day course. It is interactive and involves individual and group activities, during which participants will be expected to share their skills, knowledge, and expertise.

By the end of the course, participants will have -

  • explored the potential impact for those working in the arena of sexual harm, and identified support strategies
  • considered the potential impact of sexual harm on children, young people, and their families
  • gained an understanding of age-appropriate sexual development and what constitutes harmful sexual behaviour
  • examined their own attitudes and responses to child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation
  • reflected on key issues which influence the process of supporting children, young people, and their families
  • explored the Finklehor model of sexual offending behaviour
  • gained a working knowledge of the legislative framework and local and national guidance and policies in relation to sexual harm
