 Aims of the Course

To increase the learner’s awareness of the condition of epilepsy, its causes and appropriate treatment.                       

Objectives

At the end of the session, the learners will be able to:

  • Discuss what the condition of epilepsy is
  • Discuss what may cause epilepsy
  • Discuss types of seizures & triggers
  • Discuss appropriate treatments
  • Know how to correctly administer rectal diazepam
  • Know how to correctly administer buccal midazolam

  • Buccal Midazolam administration
    • Modes of administration
    • Side effects
    • Following the care plan

The Administration of Rectal Diazepam covering:-

  • What diazepam is
  • Use in epilepsy Indications for use
  • Appropriate doses
  • Practical demonstration using anatomical model & video
  • Possible difficulties or barriers to administration
  • Side effects
  • Effects of overdose and action to take
  • Action to take if prescribed dose ineffective

This is a 1/2 day course delivered using participative learning techniques with a certificate of attendance issued upon completion.
