Course Information

The session aims to offer a common tool for social Workers to use and to provide a shared understanding of risk in relation to domestic abuse, stalking, and honour based violence in domestic abuse relationships.

  • The SafeLives Risk Identification Checklist (RIC) is a tool which is used nationally by practitioners who come into contact with young people aged 13 - 17 years (suitable for those up to 25 years) who are experiencing domestic abuse

This Young People’s RIC tool helps practitioners to identify known risks in domestic abuse and includes specific considerations in relation to young people to inform professional judgment and safety planning.

  • The Domestic Abuse, Stalking, Harassment and Honour based violence (DASH) risk identification tool is a tool which assists practitioners to identify known risks in domestic abuse relationships for adults and will assist to inform professional judgement and safety planning.

The tools will assist to identify suitable cases to be referred to MARAC and inform referrals to children’s social care and / or assessment completed by Social Workers.

Briefing sessions have been arranged for Social Workers who are working directly with families. The session aims to offer a common tool for social workers to use and to provide a shared understanding of risk in relation to domestic abuse, stalking, and honour based violence in domestic abuse relationships.

Target group

Social workers and all practitioners working with families.

Learning pathway

Safeguarding children - a shared responsibility and Domestic abuse awareness - the impact on children, adults and the community must be attended first as these are pre-requisites of the course.
