Stray and roaming dogs

If you have found or seen a dog roaming, you can report it to us.

Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays

Telephone 01482 300 300, between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays

The dog warden service does not operate outside of normal office hours. However, on weekends and bank holidays between 9.30am to 5pm you can take stray dogs to our kennelling provider -

You must call them on 01430 423 986 in advance to let them know when you will be taking a dog to them.

Dangerous dogs

To report a dog attack on another animal, contact our dog warden service -

  • using the online form
  • telephone 01482 300 300 during normal office hours - Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm

Contact the local police on 101 to report a dog attack on a person or a dog suspected of being a banned type -

  • Pit Bull Terrier
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasileiro
  • XL Bully

We do not offer an out of hours service relating to dangerous dogs.

Lost dogs

If you have lost your dog, you can report this to us using our online form.

Report dangerous or lost dog (opens in a new window)

When we receive your request

  • an officer will contact you to offer advice or arrange collection
  • the dog will be checked for microchip or identification. If possible, it will be returned to the owner
  • dogs whose owners cannot be identified will be kennelled for 7 days to allow an owner to reclaim their dog. After this time, the dog will be available for re-homing

Collection cost

If your dog is picked up by our dog wardens and cannot be returned to you immediately, for example, if it has no form of identification such as microchip or collar tag, you will be charged. The cost is -

Offence Cost
First offence

£53 plus £8 per day kennel fees reduced to fixed fee of £53 if the dog is collected within 3 days.

Second offence Second offence £74 plus £8 per day kennel fees reduced to fixed fee of £74 if dog collected within 3 days.

3-day period includes the day of seizure.

Returning stray dog Subject to availability, transport of stray dog from kennels to owner within the Hull boundary - £27.

The fees must be paid before your dog can be returned.
