Hull Action for Neighbourhood Defibrillators (HANDS) is looking for local business support to –
- develop the network of automated external defibrillators (AEDs or ‘defibrillators’)
- plug gaps in the network
This will give your business and local communities access to this vital important first-aid equipment.
The network will be accessible for anyone to access in a life-or-death situation and be open -
- 24 hours a day
- 7 days a week
The partnership consists of -
- Hull City Council
- Yorkshire Ambulance Service
- Help for Health
- HFR Solutions CIC
- The Oliver King Foundation
- Connexin
- Rotary Club of Hull
Responsibilities of a guardian
The HANDS partnership can offer advice and guidance. This will make it as easy as possible for businesses to provide lifesaving equipment.
Community access to a defibrillator is required –
- 24 hours a day
- 7 days a week
By agreeing to be a defibrillator guardian, you would commit to -
- install a defibrillator
- install an external cabinet unit
- place the defibrillator in a community accessible location on the premises
In addition –
- provide - a permanent 240-volt supply to the external cabinet unit
- the power supply is for heating the cabinet. Uses around £10 of electricity a year
- register - the defibrillator with the national defibrillator network database ‘The Circuit’
- named contact - with Yorkshire ambulance service
- report - at the earliest opportunity if the unit is offline or unavailable for use
- conduct - a weekly visual examination of the cabinet to ensure all in working order
- undertake and organise - training in the use and maintenance of the unit
