Review a decision

If you are unhappy or disagree with a Council Tax decision you need to ask us to review the decision.

When contacting us you must include the below details -

  • Council Tax reference number - this information is on the Council Tax bill or letter you have received and can be found in the top right corner
  • the address your query relates to
  • a full explanation as to what information you would like us to reconsider
  • supporting evidence

You can do this by either -

Appeal a decision

If the decision has been reviewed and you are not happy with the outcome you can submit an appeal.

You should only appeal if your initial request has been refused.

If you want to appeal against the banding of your property, you need to do this through the Valuation Office.

If you make an appeal, you must still pay your bill while you are waiting for the appeal to be dealt with.

We will look at your appeal and let you know our decision as soon as we can. If you are still not happy with this decision, you can appeal to the Valuation Tribunal Service. You must try to resolve the enquiry directly with us before approaching the Valuation Tribunal Service.

Appealing the banding of a property

We do not decide what council tax band your home is in. That is done by the Valuation Office Agency. If you would like to appeal your band, please contact them. You can access more information about challenging your Council Tax band here.
