Medical priorities, offers and refusals
The occupational therapy assessment might state that your current accommodation does not meet your needs. You may be awarded a medical priority when you are added to the adapted housing list as a result. This will increase your priority on the list for the property type you are assessed as needing.
Prioritising applicants for adapted housing
Applicants are prioritised for adapted housing under our allocations policy.
As well as the normal prioritising rules, we make sure the adapted property is offered to a person who needs that type of property and adaptations. This means that the person at the top of the list might not always be offered a property that becomes available. This can be the case if that property has adaptations that they do not need. This can also be the case if it is the wrong sized property.
Offers and refusals
In the case of having a medical priority and saying no to suitable offers of accommodation, your medical priority might be removed. It can also be the case where your application may be frozen for a period of 6 months.
If you are awarded a medical priority after assessed as needing a certain type of home or adaptations, you cannot request a different type of home. You also cannot request for adaptations to be removed once you move in.
