Mutual Exchange

Apply

Apply to swap homes

Once you have found a person you would like to swap with, complete the mutual exchange application form. This can be accessed below.

Once the application is received, you will be contacted by your local housing officer. They will discuss the process with you.

You cannot get a paper copy from a Customer Service Centre or Information Point.

If your application is accepted and you are not a Hull City Council tenant, you will be requested by the tenancy officer to complete a Homesearch form.

There are no restrictions on the number of mutual exchanges a tenant can have and there is no waiting time between exchanges.

Once the mutual exchange application form is submitted

We must make our decision on whether the exchange can go ahead within 42 days of us receiving your mutual exchange application form.

You will be contacted by us or your landlord if you are not a Hull City Council tenant. This is to arrange for a viewing of your property and a discussion about your rent account.

There are various things we need to check before we can make our decision. There are several statutory reasons that we might refuse to allow you to swap homes.
