Introducing Hull District Heating
With growing national focus on green heat technologies, achieving net zero and improving energy security, the Hull District Heating Company is excited to announce a heat network is in the pipeline for Hull.
The development of heat networks is actively encouraged by the UK Government with the establishment of the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) in March 2022 to provide £288 million in capital grants over a three year period. The GHNF recognises that Heat Networks will be vital to making net zero a reality in the UK. They are a proven, cost-effective way of providing reliable, efficient, low carbon heat at a fair price to consumers, whilst supporting local regeneration.
Backed by Hull City council, the Hull District Heating Company is poised to deliver a district heating network within the city centre of Hull, and further afield. this will create opportunity for buildings along the network to connect and benefit from sustainable, low carbon heating.
Hull City Council has been successful in obtaining funding from the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF). Why is a District Heat Network needed
The main purpose of a District Heating Network is to achieve the city’s 2030 net zero carbon policy. However, there are other goals such as reducing the costs of heating and hot water.

Who would access the District Heat Network
Currently a district heating network would be accessed largely by non-domestic buildings. For example, council buildings, large shops, hotels, shopping centres, educational institutes, offices and potentially leisure facilities and apartment blocks with central plant rooms.
Looking to the future there is the possibility to have individual households joining up to the network, but that is not currently being considered.
The network will likely expand outside of the city centre in the future.
