A Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) is when the -
- government
- local authorities
- utility companies
have a Statutory Right to buy property or land, or take a right over it, in certain circumstances.
The local authority must meet set criteria as laid down by statute. In particular, the authority must prove the purchase is in the public interest.
Hawthorn East Compulsory Purchase Order
We do not have the power to acquire the land until certain steps have been taken and we are unable to come to an agreement with the landowner to purchase the land or property.
We must make the CPO available for anyone to view via our web site or in person at the Guildhall Reception. Just ask to view the Hawthorn East CPO. You can also take copies of CPOs and we can email a copy to you.
