Course Information

Social workers play an integral part in supporting our children looked after to make positive progress in their education, ensuring they achieve successful outcomes.

It is essential that social workers understand the quite often complex world of schools and other educational settings so that they can challenge and support in key professional meetings and provide information that produces quality Personal Education Plans, including effective targets for learning and progress.

By the end of the course, participants will have improved knowledge and understanding of -

  • looked after children and children with a social worker
  • the role of the social worker and their importance
  • ways in which to support children and young people to ensure positive outcomes are achieved
  • ways in which to support staff working with looked after children and children with a social worker and some key considerations
  • effective personal education plans and the impact of pupil premium plus
Course length 1.5 hours
Target group
  • newly appointed social workers (AYSE)
  • those who would like to refresh their practice with the knowledge and understanding needed to support looked after children and children with a social worker
