Carer’s Council Tax discount
You may be able to get a carer’s council tax discount if you are -
- living with and caring for someone
- the person you care for must be entitled to certain benefits as specified on the application form
- the person you care for must not be your spouse, partner or child under 18
- you must be providing care for at least 35 hours a week on average
You will need to provide proof of the benefit entitlement such as an award letter. You can take a picture of the document and upload it (opens in new window). Documents can only be sent in JPEG or PNG.
Alternatively, you may qualify if you are -
- employed as a carer
- living in accommodation provided by the employer so that the care can be given
- employed to provide care for at least 24 hours a week
- paid no more than £44 a week

Exemptions also apply when a property is empty because the occupier is in residential care or receiving care elsewhere, and when your property is empty because you are proving care for someone elsewhere.
