Proposed memorial gardens
Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have committed to providing permanent memorials to those involved in the Legacy Funeral Director investigation.
This summer we will build a memorial garden at the Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium in Hull, and at the Lelley Fields Crematorium, near Preston, in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
They will be peaceful and respectful places, where the ashes that remain in our care will be laid to rest.
Anyone affected by the incident will be able to scatter ashes there in the future.
The memorials will also be a lasting tribute for all those affected.
At the Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium, the area will be known as the 'Forget-Me-Not Garden'.
At the Lelley Fields Crematorium the memorial will be known as 'Butterfly Grove'.
We expect the main building work to be completed by late Spring to early Summer.
Architects from both Local Authorities have worked closely with the professional teams at Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium and Lelley Fields Crematorium to design the memorials so they fit with the character and appearance of the area and are suitable for scattering ashes.
You can share your views on the memorial gardens through our public consultation.
