Death certificates
At the end of the appointment, you will be able to buy a death certificate. They cost £12.50 each. Payment can be made by credit or debit card at the time of the appointment.
Certificates can be ordered online at any time after the death has been registered for the same fee of £12.50.
Paperwork will also be issued that will allow you to make funeral arrangements. The registrar will issue this to you at your appointment. Or, with your permission, they can scan this paperwork directly to your chosen funeral director.
Short death certificate
It is possible to request a short death certificate. This certificate provides evidence that someone has died, without sharing sensitive information such as the cause of death or sex of the deceased. This information must still be recorded at the time of registration, but it will not show on a short death certificate. The fee for a short death certificate is £12.50.
Short death certificates may not always be accepted for verification purposes by all organisations when managing the deceased affairs. Unless you do not want to share information relating to the cause of death and sex, we would advise that you obtain a full death certificate.
Request a certificate
To request a certificate after registration is complete, use the below form.
Do not use this form to order a copy of a historical record or of an event that has not been registered in the last 12 months. Instead, access our standard copy certificate service.
