The Hull Virtual School supports and advises all those involved in the education of -

  • Children In Care (CIC)
  • Children Previously in Care (PLAC)
  • Children With a Social Worker (CWSW)

The Virtual School is not a physical place, but we are a local team made up of professionals from a wide range of education and social care backgrounds. All local authorities have a statutory responsibility to appoint a Virtual School Head (VSH).

Our responsibilities are outlined through statutory guidance published by the Department for Education (DfE). Our overall aim is to raise the educational achievement of all vulnerable young people in Hull, creating a culture of high aspirations, and closing the attainment gap.

We maintain, track and monitor data on -

  • CIC
  • PLAC
  • CWSW

on behalf of the local authority, keeping an up-to-date register of all pupils from Early Years to Post 16. We track and monitor data based on -

  • pupil level information
  • school placements and school history
  • admissions and transfers
  • SEND status
  • attendance
  • suspensions
  • targets
  • progress
  • attainment

As a team we promote good practice by ensuring a termly Personal Education Plan (PEP) is in place and that young people have SMART targets linked to their aspirations and goals.

We've also established a robust training offer for professionals and foster carers which continues to develop, and strive to speed up the decision-making process around education factors when multiple professionals are involved.
