Homelessness Applications
How long a homelessness application will take varies from person to person. The process will depend on your individual circumstances and the enquiries we need to make.
Not all homeless applicants will be owed a duty which will result in a higher priority on the housing list. We first must complete our investigation into your homelessness. After this a decision can be made.
The Waiting Time for Accommodation
It is important to understand that not all people approaching us for help with homelessness will be offered a council home, even those owed a duty.
In the last 12 months 3,500 people approached us for homelessness advice and 5,700 people made housing applications but we only let 1,405 properties. This included -
- 519, one bedroomed properties. 204 bungalows, 315 flats and bedsits
- 540, 2 bedroomed properties. 28 bungalows, 339 houses, 173 flats and maisonettes
- 308, 3 bedroomed properties. 281 houses, 27 flats and maisonettes
- 33, 4 bedroom houses
- 4, 5 bedroom houses
We will support you to find an appropriate solution to your homelessness by exploring all the options available. This could be something that is not council accommodation.
